Executive Director

Open Door Immigration Services’ (ODIS) mission is to love and serve our immigrant neighbors by providing affordable immigration legal services and, together, opening the door to full community engagement. In addition to legal services, ODIS provides citizenship classes to community members and Know Your Rights training to other organizations and potential clients in Massachusetts. We serve the North Shore of Boston including Essex and Middlesex Counties.

The Executive Director is the senior administrative leader of ODIS, working collaboratively with the Legal Services Director to manage the organization’s staff and volunteers, operations, and finances, as well as leading fundraising and external community relations. In partnership with the ODIS Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for ensuring the fulfillment of the organization’s strategic goals and objectives. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors.

The position is for 40 hours per week. Compensation is $70,000-$75,000 dependent on qualifications and experience includes health insurance and paid time off. Compensation will be reviewed every 6 months and increased as finances allow. The position is hybrid-remote requiring set office hours as well as flexibility for evening and weekends meetings.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to ensure the mission of ODIS is carried out and fiscal integrity is maintained

  • Responsible, jointly with the Board, for maintaining official records and documents to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

  • Work collaboratively with the Legal Services Director to ensure the mission to provide affordable immigration legal services is met

  • Fund development through individual and corporate donations, events, and grant writing in order to ensure the health of programs and meet strategic goals

  • Grant tracking and reporting

  • In collaboration with the Treasurer, maintain fiscal management that includes operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position. This includes responsibility for the oversight or completion of all bookkeeping, payroll, insurance

  • The effective administration of Open Door Immigration Services’ operations including the day-to-day operations such as mail, email accounts, responding to phone calls

  • Establish appropriate organizational policies and procedures

  • Responsible for the supervision and management of competent, qualified staff and volunteers, including regular performance evaluations, sound human resources practices, and encouraging staff and volunteer development and education

  • Responsible for serving as the primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the public Collaborating with community nonprofits, town government bodies, and resident initiatives

  • Establishing and maintaining social media for the organization

Required qualifications:

  • Empathy and cultural competency in the commitment to serving some of our most vulnerable neighbors

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as business administration, public administration, nonprofit management or equivalent experience

  • At least 3 years experience working in nonprofit management

  • Prior experience with fundraising and donor development

  • Proven leadership ability

  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning

  • Experience with organizational planning and program development

  • Demonstrated budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting

  • Experience managing grants, including monthly and year-end reporting

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to speak to large groups of people, experience with public speaking opportunities

  • Experience with supervision of paid and/or volunteer staff

  • Ability to multitask, solve problems, respond to emergent situations, work independently and collaboratively, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment

  • Bilingual Spanish and/or Portuguese or other, preferred

  • Must live on the Boston North Shore
