Talking Points
Open Door Immigrations Services helps families who have experienced financial difficulties file immigration documents with USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) and/or the NVC (National Visa Center).
Not everyone has thousands of dollars to spend on filing immigration documents, yet all eligible people still need to file documents in order to stay, live, and work in the US.
ODIS is a non-profit organization that has permission from the Department of Justice to help families in financial hardship file immigration documents at little or no cost.
Some of the work we do:
Citizenship applications
Green card applications
Help green card holders and US citizens apply for an immigrant visa for certain family members who live overseas
Prepare for interviews with USCIS and the NVC
Apply for employment authorization if they have an eligible immigrant visa application that allows them to work in the US while their application is pending
Apply for a travel permit that allows non US citizens to travel overseas for an extended period of time or to visit another country (for humanitarian reasons) while their application is being processed in the US
Some of our clients have been taken advantage of by people claiming to be immigration professionals. They have been scammed out of thousands of dollars and left with no benefits and nothing filed. These are your neighbors and your friends and they deserve to receive immigration legal services without having to choose between the cost of services and the cost of putting a meal on the table for their families.
ODIS continues to operate because of the generosity of financial donors and the local community. ODIS is one of the few organizations operating on the North Shore of Boston that is accredited by the Department of Justice to provide immigration legal services at very little to no cost, based on the income of the client. Since most of our clients are experiencing financial hardship and receive our services at no cost, it's so important that ODIS receives the financial support of its community.
We would love for donors to make monthly contributions to our mission and have a local impact on the community around us:
$5 monthly donation: allows us to help an additional two homeless families each year
$10 monthly donation: pays for the books we provide to our citizenship class each year
$25 monthly donation: covers the cost of printer ink for six months so we can print and file client cases with USCIS
$60 monthly donation: allows us to pay for our postage for mailing client documents to USCIS each year
$100 monthly donation: pays for our case management system for one year
